Financial Plan

The 2 main costs for this project are hosting and stipends.

Hosting & Bandwidth

Note: The cost of hosting images and bandwidth is unknown at this point, but will become clear as we develop the software.

Ways to pay hosting costs:

  • in kind donations.
    • Private companies sometime host projects (MediaTemple and other progressive hosting services have been known to do this)
    • using an individually owned private server (through mirroring content or otherwise)
    • institutional server such as a non-profit organization, school, or museum.
    • financial contributions from users to pay for commercial server – small amounts, subscription service. May not support project entirely, but combined with…
    • larger financial contributions from donors – able to be tax deductible through a fiscal sponsor.

Stipends

The primary need for the life of the project is hosting and stipends will be generated once hosting costs are covered. However out of principle it is important to me to pay artists and curators for their work, even if it is a token amount. A few ways I planned to have this work are budgeted below. I am open to other ideas.

Ways to pay stipends:

  • financial contributions from users – small amounts, possibly coming from a volunteer subscription service. May not support project entirely.
  • larger financial contributions from donors – tax deductible through a fiscal sponsor.
  • Online tip jar on AddArt site

Example of Stipend Expenses

  • 8 artists/show x $25 stipend + $50 stipend for curator/organizer = $250 per 2 week show, $6500 annually.
  • 8 artists/show x $50 stipend + $50 stipend for curator/organizer = $450 per 2 week show, $11700 annually
  • 6 artists/show x $25 stipend + $50 stipend for curator/organizer = $200 per 2 week show, $5200 annually
  • 6 artists/show x $50 stipend + $50 stipend for curator/organizer = $350 per 2 week show, $9100 annually
